All thirty-four units now have a figure of their own
An RTS where a musketeer looks like an archer holding something else reads wrong: you look at a fight and you cannot tell who is standing where. So the units have been worked through one by one over the past weeks, and as of this week all thirty-four are in.
What that means while you play:
- Every unit is its own figure, drawn from eight directions, with a walk, an attack, a hit it takes and a way of going down.
- The weapon is really in the hand. A bow is held by the wood and drawn, a halberd stands out above the helmet, a bayonet goes forward. You can tell a unit by its silhouette, even when it is half hidden behind a forest.
- Your player colour sits on the cloth — the tunic, the coat, the saddle cloth. That is what you pick out from a distance, and it works from every direction, not just head-on.
- The unique units of the six civilizations are properly distinguishable from their ordinary counterparts.
Still to come: a few riders get their last pass, and the buildings move to the same look after that. Screenshots are on the media page.
