Aetas stores only what it needs to let you play online and to show a leaderboard.

This website#

aetasrts.nl has no cookies, no advertising and no third-party analytics. Fonts are served from this server rather than from a font service, so opening a page does not send a request to another company.

The web server keeps technical log lines so that faults can be found. The IP address in them is truncated before it is written, and those lines are deleted after two weeks.

On your own computer#

Your settings, savegames and replays live in %APPDATA%\Aetas and never leave your machine. The game sends no telemetry: if you play on your own, nothing is sent to us.

On the lobby server#

For each player who signs in with Steam we store one record:

• your Steam ID and Steam display name, to recognise your profile and show your name on the leaderboard;
• your points and the content you have unlocked;
• cumulative gameplay statistics from online matches: matches played and won, units trained, killed and lost, buildings built, razed and lost, technologies researched, resources gathered, play time, ages reached, civilizations played, and a few records (largest army, longest match, fastest victory);
• when you were last online.

That is all. We do not store your email address, your IP address, chat messages, or anything about what you do outside Aetas. We do not sell or share this data, and the game contains no advertising or analytics code.

While playing#

Matches run directly between players, through Steam or over a direct IP connection. The lobby server does not see the contents of a match — only the result that players report afterwards.

Retention and deletion#

Profiles are kept for as long as the game runs, because deleting one also deletes the points and unlocks it holds. You can ask for your profile to be deleted at any time by writing to aetasrts@gmail.com; mention your Steam name. Deletion is permanent and includes your points and unlocks.

The server also keeps nightly backups for up to one week, from which a deleted profile disappears once that week has passed.
