From four workers to an army#
Remember how Empire Earth and Age of Empires felt? A town center, a few workers, an unknown map, and somewhere behind those woods someone doing exactly the same thing. I wanted that feeling back, and that's where Aetas came from.
You chop wood, pick berries, sow fields and dig for stone and gold. You build a city, raise an army and try to bring your opponent down. And all the while there's that one question nagging at you: do I advance to the next age now, or do I train one more group of soldiers first? No heroes, no cards. Just a good old-fashioned RTS.
Seven ages
From the Stone Age to the Industrial Age. Your spearmen become pikemen, your archers musketeers, your rams cannons. But progress has a price, and your opponent won't wait for you.
Six peoples
Franks, Norse, Greeks, Mongols, Arabs and Chinese. Each with its own unit, its own start, its own research and something it never gets, from Frankish walls to Mongol camps, all match long.
Every map is new
Nine kinds of map, from thick forest and lakes to rivers with fords, desert oases and mesas. On Highlands, ridges of rock you can't cross leave only a few passes, and walls and towers go right up the hills to close them. Always fresh, always fair, and you never quite know what you'll find.
Campaigns and battles
Six campaigns of eight missions, one for every people, based on real history. From the wooden horse at Troy to the walls of Ningyuan, plus six famous battles you can play on their own.
Play together
Up to eight players, friends and computer players mixed, with voice chat to plan with your team. Save a match and finish it another evening. Want to prove yourself? Play ranked and climb the leaderboard on this site.
A computer that fights back
The computer builds a real town, opens differently every match and gathers its army before it attacks. Five levels, from Beginner to Merciless, and when it has clearly lost it offers to surrender.
Challenges and achievements
Six challenges with bronze, silver and gold medals, and 194 achievements to collect, from your first campaign to a handful of secret ones.
Nine languages
English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian and Simplified Chinese. The whole game, including the tutorial and the campaigns.
Seven ages#
Every age brings new units, new buildings and new possibilities. Each step forward costs more than the last. Go too early and you have no army. Go too late and you're holding a bow while the other side has muskets.
Want to know exactly what each age costs and gives you? It's all in the wiki.
What it looks like#
Out now in Early Access#
Aetas is out in Early Access on Steam. You can play it from start to finish, and every update makes it better: the art, the balance, the computer opponent. Not sure yet? A free demo is coming soon to the same page, with the first three ages, skirmish against the computer, the tutorial, the first Greek missions and the battle of Cannae.
