Three interface themes, and real type
Until now the Aetas interface used one bitmap font, scaled up for every heading. That is exactly what makes a menu look cheap: stretched letters, the same grey everywhere. That has been dealt with.
Three themes#
At first start you pick how the interface looks, and you can always switch later under Settings → Interface:
- Stone & bronze — the default. Dark stone, bronze accents, Cinzel for the headings and Alegreya Sans for the text.
- Slate — cooler and tighter, with Barlow Condensed. For people who would rather not see gold.
- Parchment & map — light, like an unfolded map, with EB Garamond.
The theme colours only the chrome: menus, screens, lobby, pause menu and the side panel. The world itself always stays as it is. That is a hard line in the code, and there is a good reason for it: if the theme coloured the world too, you would lose track of your own units on a light parchment.
And the ages carry a colour#
One thing does move with time: the accent colour of the age indicator in the top right, from stone through bronze and iron to steel. The rest of the interface stays where it is, so nobody has to go looking for it again every fifteen minutes.
The same idea runs through the wiki on this site: every unit, building and technology carries the colour of the age it belongs to.
