Frequently asked questions
Price, platforms, mods, multiplayer and what is not in it yet.
When does Aetas come out?#
There is no date yet, and the Steam store page is not open yet. Once it is, you can add the game to your wishlist; until then the news lives on this site.
What does it cost?#
Around €12–15, once, with everything in it. No separate civilizations, no season pass, no ads. There will be a free demo that stays up.
Which platforms?#
Windows, 64-bit. The game is built in Java with LibGDX and technically runs on Linux and macOS too, but only Windows is tested and released.
Do I need to install Java?#
No. The runtime is bundled.
Can I play against the computer?#
Yes, and it is not a practice mode. The AI gathers, expands, builds walls, scouts and picks its moment to counter-attack. Four difficulty levels, and you can mix humans and computer players in the same match.
How many players?#
Up to eight, in teams or free-for-all, with observers alongside.
Is there a campaign?#
No. Aetas is skirmish, multiplayer and a tutorial. Single matches on a fresh map, not a story with missions.
Can I watch replays?#
Yes, every match is recorded. Because the simulation is deterministic, a replay is not a video but the same match computed again — so you can look around freely.
Can I mod it?#
Not officially supported, but a lot of it is readable JSON: units, buildings, technologies, civilizations and ages. The wiki on this site is generated from those same files.
Why is it called Aetas?#
Aetas is Latin for age. That is what the game is about.
I found a bug#
Write to aetasrts@gmail.com. Say what you did and what you expected — and if it happened in a match, keep the replay.
